Be the first Equity and Inclusion Officer for the City of Beaverton, shaping the future of inclusion, equity, and community engagement work in Oregon's largest metropolitan area.

The City of Beaverton is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to serve as the Strategic DEI Advisor to the City Manager and direct and manage the development and implementation of a strategic vision of DEI for the City of Beaverton.

This is a new position to the city and will play a crucial role in cultivating diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout city departments and services. In addition to guiding citywide DEI efforts and collaborating with community partners, this position will provide direct leadership for Beaverton’s Cultural Inclusion and homelessness programs, as well as the Center for Mediation and Dialogue.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the implementation of the city’s strategic DEI Plan, taking a comprehensive approach to advance workplace equity and integrate cultural competency in delivering equitable outcomes through city programs, policy development, budgets, contracts, decision-making, and service delivery.

Oversee the daily operations of the division, including leading and supporting the work of several community-focused workgroups, including Cultural Inclusion, Mediation and Dialogue, and the city’s Homelessness Programs.

Partner and collaborate with Human Resources to promote cultural understanding and competency, and a climate of racial equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Coach and support departments in providing culturally competent programs and services. Guide innovation and adaptation of existing programs and services.

Serve as a resource to improve public outreach and community engagement, especially to underserved and underrepresented groups.

Serve on the city’s executive leadership team, working with other leaders to shape and realize the city’s mission, vision, and goals.

Sponsor internal DEI teams and committees.

Provide recommendations to city leadership and elected officials regarding policies and procedures that may enhance and promote DEI.

Build and nurture strong relationships with community partners to increase community connections and opportunities for collaboration and public outreach. Initiate and participates in community conversations about DEI issues.

Collaborate with/lead/advise on city-wide DEI initiatives and prepares and present a variety of written and verbal reports and other communication/messaging on city department programs and initiatives.

Serve as an internal consultant to city leadership and staff to facilitate the development and ongoing enhancement of a strategic approach to cultivating DEI within the city.

Inform and facilitate the city's equal employment opportunity goals and accountability metrics, including contractor diversity, including partnering with other city staff to ensure focused outreach and recruitment efforts, and advising Human Resources to attract, develop, and retain highly competent and service-oriented employees.

Other duties as outlined in the Equity and Inclusion Officer classification.
Skills:  
Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, social or behavioral sciences, communications, organizational development, or a related field; and
Five years of direct work experience providing guidance on diversity, equity and inclusion, civil rights laws (such as EEO, ADA, and Title VI policies), and implementation and compliance practices;
Three of the five years must include supervision or management of professional staff; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
Ability to pass reference checks, education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check.
