The Opportunity
The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will play an integral role in driving the communications, marketing, and brand engagement priorities of The Opportunity Network forward.

The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will report to the Director of Communications and will work closely with OppNet’s Strategic Advancement and program teams to ensure the organization’s goals of elevating student voice externally and local and national brand growth are being advanced.

The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will manage core operational and programmatic elements of the organization’s communications and marketing activities. This is an incredible opportunity to refine key skills in communications and marketing in the agile nonprofit sector.

Since 2003, The Opportunity Network has ignited the drive, curiosity, and agency of students from historically and systematically underrepresented communities to connect them to college access and success, internships, career opportunities, and personal and professional networks. Our two core programs, OppNet Fellows and Career Fluency® Partnerships, are anchored in our proprietary Career Fluency® curriculum, which articulates the necessary skills and mindsets for college and career readiness. The Person
The successful Communications and Engagement Coordinator is a detail-oriented, creative project manager who understands the necessity of integrating the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout their work. They thrive in an organization in the midst of growing its brand footprint because they recognize the opportunities to grow and innovate that context presents. They have experience producing engaging content across a variety of channels. They also understand the value analytics have in determining marketing strategy. They have expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, social media management, video-editing, and copy writing. They have a passion for engaging stakeholders thoughtfully and understand how crucial relationship management processes are in cultivating, retaining, and mobilizing those relationships.


Visual Design & Brand Management
• Maintain institutional brand asset library by creating a variety of on-brand graphics that include key organizational features, and updating previous ones to reflect current brand guidelines, ensuring these graphics are organized and accessible for cross-team use.
• Design collateral and digital assets for OppNet’s annual fundraising events, new initiatives, and
ongoing campaigns, and implement edits and revisions efficiently and without errors.
• Serve as primary OppNet programming and events content archivist by capturing, gathering, and organizing photography, video, speaker quotes, etc., from a variety of events with different stakeholder groups multiple times per month.
• Update branded content templates and create assets for new initiatives as needed.
• Serve as project lead in organizational content review process by coordinating with staff across teams to shepherd external, branded content to finalization.
• Enforce institutional brand & style guide to ensure asset-based, systems-focused approach across all branded content production and assist staff in accessing and operationalizing branded communications and marketing resources.

Editorial Content and Copywriting
• Leverage various channels for editorial content across OppNet’s website, eblasts, newsletters, and social media platforms; using analytics to drive strategy and crafting responsive copy and design for the specific audience.
• Serve as the copywriter and production lead for the monthly Opportunity Report newsletters.
• Manage process for updating documents, presentation decks, and the website when there are Board, Associate Board, Alumni Leadership Council, and staff transitions.
• Conduct regular text-level copy audits across OppNet’s WordPress web pages and make updates, sourcing and liaising with consultants on design/code elements as needed.
• Conduct ongoing “field research” by reading, indexing, and collecting relevant articles and op-eds by OppNet peers in the fields of education, social justice, etc.
• Assist in the copy-editing and formatting of various external-facing documents as needed.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Lead ONBAP (OppNet’s Brand Ambassador Program) which engages a handful of Fellows in a year-long, paid mentorship program where they create original content for social media on a monthly basis; oversee the programs’ key operational and logistical components, plan and facilitate monthly meetings, and manage the recruitment process each fall.
• Strategically engage various stakeholders across OppNet’s work including Fellows, Alumni, Staff, Partners, Volunteers, Board/Associate Board Members, and Donors to ensure thoughtful and comprehensive storytelling.
• Remain versed in trends and insights related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and center a commitment to all throughout interactions (written and in-person).

Social Media Management
• Manage OppNet’s social media presence by spearheading content creation and publishing, responding to engagement and messages in a timely manner, and using data analysis to inform a wider strategy for the platforms that aligns with organizations goals.
• Build out monthly content and publication calendars by capturing relevant events, scheduled social content, press, and external mailings and provide regular updates to the Director of Communications.
• Increase organizational social footprint by engaging with current followers and desired followers via likes, shares, etc.

The ideal candidate will hold these assets and attributes:
• 2+ years of relevant work experience in marketing and communications, ideally at an organization with explicitly anti-racist communications
• Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience writing for a variety of formats (social media, print, etc.)
• Experience managing parts of the editorial and publishing process at an organization
• Technical savvy in Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, iLife, Microsoft Office, email newsletter platforms such as Marketing Cloud, website design and editing in WordPress, and other multimedia and content editing software
• Technical experience in photography, video recording, and photo and video editing (Premier Pro or iMovie)
• Experience liaising between stakeholders to accomplish a task or project
• Strong organization skills, project management, and attention to detail
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Experience in the education or college access sector
