Job Description

Michigan Farm Bureau seeks an Attorney to provide legal counsel supporting Michigan agriculture, rural communities, and member-focused programs. This role handles agricultural, regulatory, environmental, contract, and insurance-related matters; researches and interprets laws; drafts and reviews contracts and policies; and supports advocacy, compliance, and risk management. The Attorney collaborates across teams, advises on public policy affecting farmers, and may represent the organization in hearings. Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on agricultural, land use, environmental, and regulatory matters impacting Michigan farmers and rural communities.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, policies, and agreements for Farm Bureau and affiliated entities.
  • Research and interpret federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and case law affecting agriculture, insurance, and member services.
  • Represent the organization in administrative and regulatory proceedings, hearings, and negotiations as appropriate.
  • Support legislative and policy initiatives through legal analysis, drafting, and review of proposed legislation and rules.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on risk management, compliance, and governance issues.
  • Collaborate with member services, advocacy, and insurance teams to address member legal concerns and organizational priorities.
  • Develop and deliver trainings and educational materials on legal topics relevant to Michigan agriculture and rural communities.
  • Assist with managing outside counsel and coordinating complex or specialized legal matters.
  • Maintain thorough documentation, case files, and records in accordance with organizational and ethical standards.
