Position Summary:
The Accreditation and Academic Compliance Officer will serve as a leader on the Institutional Effectiveness (IE) team. The IE team is charged with leading institutional planning and improvement activities, with a focus on integrating the collection, analysis, and sharing of data and outcomes to demonstrate how SJU is fulfilling its mission and meeting its goals. The Accreditation and Academic Compliance Officer has primary oversight of the maintenance of academic accreditation and regulatory compliance and works in concert with academic and administrative leaders of the University to ensure academic integrity and quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO), the primary point of contact with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), and perform the responsibilities outlined in the ALO guidelines.
• Serve as the institutional point of contact for state higher education regulators.
• Monitor and facilitate the compliance of programs with accreditation requirements.
• Ensure that academic programs that are subject to specialty accreditation meet the milestones mandated by the accreditor in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with deans, department chairs, and program directors to ensure that communications with specialty accreditors and documents shared with accreditors are consistent with the institution’s commitment to excellence.
• Collaborate with the Provost and Assistant VP for Institutional Effectiveness on regulatory compliance matters.
• Maintain currency in pertinent state rules and regulations, track emerging issues that may affect regulatory compliance requirements; and communicate approved changes, new directions, and opportunities to the University.
• Develop quality assurance education, training, and communication for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and other key departments of the University.
• Monitor and ensure regulatory compliance with online standards.
• Partnering with appropriate University areas, assure and monitor academic compliance in key areas such as copyright clearance, academic integrity, and academic digital accessibility.
• Work with the Provost Office, General Counsel, and other Academic Departments in reviewing, managing, and implementing the State Regulation for Distance Education, as well as assist in assessing the impact of these regulations on students, faculty, and the growth of online learning at the University.
• Actively monitor developments in state laws in each state in which the University enrolls students and, if authorization or licensure is or becomes necessary, seek those approvals. Facilitate the
• Ensure requirements are met for The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) program.
• Notify accreditors and facilitate the process for required academic and administrative changes.

Minimum Requirements:
• Master’s degree.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible academic administrative experience in a higher education setting.
• Experience with University accreditation and specialty, programmatic accreditation.
• Strong commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and ability to interact effectively with a variety of constituent groups.
• Demonstrated experience in developing relationships with state higher education regulators and other external constituents such as local government, business, and industry.
• Demonstrated experience in working effectively in a system of shared governance.
• Demonstrated experience monitoring compliance with external regulatory agencies.
• Entrepreneurial spirit with a strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarship, and providing a student-centered environment for learning and living.
• Excellent collaborative leadership style with a strategic and creative approach to issues, and exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including diplomacy, discretion, and
• tact; ability to listen to divergent views while building consensus and collegiality.
• Record of successful collaboration with faculty, academic units, and units/divisions across an institute of higher education.
• Strong organizational and analytic skills to prioritize and effectively manage multiple
• projects with competing deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively with legal counsel on a variety of types of contracts.
• Ability to handle discreetly sensitive situations and confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Earned terminal degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
