Function Of Position
Eastern Illinois University invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for University Advancement. The Vice President for University Advancement reports to the President, serves on the President’s Council and has leadership, administrative and budgetary responsibilities for an integrated internal and external university advancement program. This program includes: fundraising; development; alumni relations; communication and marketing; and legislative, community and Board of Trustees relations. The Vice President also is responsible for the supervision, coordination, and administration of the Office of University Advancement, and serves as the chief liaison officer with the Board of Trustees, the EIU Foundation, and the EIU Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Description Of Duties And Responsibilities
1. supervising, coordinating, and administering all aspects of programs and activities associated with the following:
(a) fundraising, including major campaign organization and activity,
(b) development,
(c) alumni relations,
(d) University communications and marketing
(e) legislative liaison activities,
(f) Board of Trustees activities,
(g) community relations, and
(h) commencement;

2. making recommendations to the President concerning the mission and scope of the various areas of responsibility and developing plans to implement and improve the programs;

3. making recommendations to the President concerning the department’s budgets and assuming responsibility for the appropriate use of budgeted funds;

4. providing leadership in maintaining quality staff through recruitment, retention and development, with attention to achieving Affirmative Action goals;

5. coordinating and conducting the evaluation of staff and making recommendations to the President on personnel matters;

6. providing counsel to the President concerning campus and community relations;

7. assisting in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures related to the areas of responsibility;

8. serving as a member of the President’s Council;

9. handling special assignments and performing other duties as requested by the President.

Starting Date
December 1, 2009

Salary Range
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (a Master’s degree is preferred). In addition, candidates must have:

experience in a higher education setting with demonstrated success in leading and managing development/fundraising, marketing and governmental relations;
proven leadership ability including the ability to deal effectively and collaboratively with a diverse and broad range of constituencies both on and off campus and the skills necessary to lead a dynamic university division;
outstanding oral and written communication skills
administrative and budgetary experience in a higher educational setting.
