Job Title: Sponsored Projects Officer - 01827

GENERAL SUMMARY
Provides support, guidance and project management services related to externally-sponsored projects. The pre-award support may include but is not limited to identifying potential sponsors and funding programs, submission of funding applications, sub-award/contractor status determinations, processing of awards and sub-award agreements. Post-award supports includes processing fund authorizations and supporting grant spending, liaison services with business offices, etc.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain cognizance of research interests of assigned faculty and distribute information pertaining to research opportunities, funding announcements, changes in regulations, and electronic submission systems and requirements.

Assist in proposal development and support application submission to external sponsors.

Maintain complete and accurate proposal and award files, including the Cayuse electronic jacket.

Process proposals for internal review and approval before submission.

Gather and contribute information for inclusion in ORDA publicity and publications

Assist with grant training workshops for faculty and staff.

Assist in the development of cost share and matching funds packages for sponsored project-related activities to meet sponsor guidelines for consideration and approval of department heads/school directors and the ORDA director.

Apply University policies and procedures that pertain to research and sponsored programs to all proposals.

Assist in the negotiation of grant awards and contracts with the guidance of senior ORDA personnel.

Provide documentation for auditing agencies as they complete audits of grant activity.

Identify projects that raise regulatory issues, connecting project directors with the Office of Research Compliance, and inform appropriate offices on campus of any potential issues.

Review with the PI/PD grant terms and conditions upon award, including programmatic and financial reporting requirements, as well as University policies and procedures related to research and sponsored activity.

Advise PI/PD on the steps necessary to make appropriate expenditures from restricted grant funds, such as: completing Position Appointment Forms for faculty, staff, and students; preparing and issuing Subaward Agreements, etc.

Prepare, disseminate, and review financial statements to/with the PI/PD to ensure expenses are being paid according to approved budget and properly charged to the restricted grant fund

Assist in reconciling funds and effecting the preparation of necessary expense transfers;

Prepare requests for budget revisions for agency, or internal review and approval as required

Assist and advise departmental staff on the preparation and submission of travel reports, purchase orders, etc.

Maintain cognizance of University research compliance regulations and how these intersect with financial management of awards (e.g., IRB approval requirements)

Maintain proficiency with University business operations and financial management systems such as Banner and Business Objects to effectively and efficiently carryout daily tasks and duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will exhibit knowledge and skills in all aspects of the sponsored projects process; be able to interpret and apply administrative and financial oversight regulations; demonstrate ability to work effectively and diplomatically in a professional manner; develop strong relationships and trust with assigned faculty, university administrators, and business staff; and demonstrate ability to work under pressure of deadlines and competing priorities, while attending to details, exhibiting sound decision-making, and maintain excellence in work product.

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years' experience in grant or research administration is required. University setting for directly-related experience in sponsored projects administration is preferred.
