Senior Digital Communications Manager

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is seeking a Senior Digital Communications Manager. The individual will utilize online tools, including NDI's website, social media and digital communications to support NDI's mission and strategic communications objectives. This includes managing the website, creating content, maintaining functionality, helping to maintain regional, functional and country pages and ensuring user accessibility. The Manager serves as contact for NDI teams for website-related requests/assistance. This position manages social media accounts and uses analytics to expand outreach, increase online traffic, support NDI initiatives and measure effectiveness of web-based activities.

Primary Responsibilities

Creative Design/Online and Social Media Management
In consultation with the Director of Government Relations and Communications, manages social media engagement to expand public support for democracy assistance; maintains NDI.org and other web platforms; and develops online external communications strategies to promote NDI success stories and programs
Responsible for the creative design, development and oversight of NDI's website, including maintaining functionality and accessibility for the external public; managing all web-related activity with internal teams; and working with vendors on approved web projects
Creates and develops email marketing and web campaigns that promote success stories, innovative programs and organization wide events
Analyzes data from NDI.org and social media channels using search engine optimization (SEO) analytics to track and evaluate the overall performance to develop more effective campaigns; creates and manages reports using data gathered from NDI social channels to disseminate information and optimize strategic communications plans and campaigns;
Responsible for expanding external audiences and NDI reach across all social media platforms, email distribution lists, press contacts and videos, podcasts and blogs;
Creates and manages NDI's monthly newsletter and online communications from NDI's President and Executive leadership;
Manages contact data base to help track external outreach to maximize impact.

Content Creation and Management
Designs and conducts virtual and in-person training to NDI staff and local partners on strategy and best practices for online media content in support of the Institute's mission and successes
Creates, writes and edits online content for SEO using multimedia assets; demonstrates SEO impact with graphics, text and analytical data
Manages NDI's blog, solicits guest authors and implements strategies to expand the number of followers
Serves as liaison for assigned teams for development and management of online content, including feature stories, blogs and NDI success stories; contributes to monthly e-newsletters using existing web content gathered from internal teams
Provides technical and strategic guidance in online communication strategies; explores and develops new ways to communicate activities, disseminate information and expand outreach to specific audiences
Monitors online information sources and topics related to the Institute's programs and work

Strategic Planning
Leads and provides recommendations to the Director on the department's digital communications plan
Creates comprehensive online and social media marketing strategies to engage current followers and to expand NDI audiences across all platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Flickr, Snapchat and YouTube)
Leads strategic planning for the website and provides recommendations to improve NDI.org
For assigned teams, recommends appropriate vehicles for reaching different stakeholders; provides advice on the development and implementation of communications strategies for program work; collaborates with assigned teams to expand effective communications, implement social media campaigns and create deeper engagement in support of the organization's mission
Works on ad hoc projects and events, including media and congressional outreach, international election missions, training NDI staff and partner organizations, institutional publications, gathering data on NDI's impact and more
Provides back up support for Hill meetings and NDI events

Leadership
Evaluates new emerging media or technologies to assess for their application within online campaigns for future programming needs
Incorporates best practices and newest digital trends into NDI's communications strategies
Represents the Institute as a thought leader in digital communications to external audiences
Manages day to day projects and learning plan for the department intern
Provides guidance to less experienced team members on digital communications

Education
Bachelor's degree required; a combination of experience and education in lieu of degree will be considered

Experience:
Minimum of (10) years of progressive experience implementing communication strategies in digital media; includes strong understanding and execution of social media campaign management and experience monitoring trends including use of SEO analytics in online and social media campaigns to evaluate formats, channels and technologies for digital performance improvements
Demonstrated experience expanding audience targets and monitoring trends; includes use of SEO analytics in online and social media campaigns to evaluate formats, channels and technologies for digital performance improvements
Ability to compile data on digital platforms to create reports for internal and external use; includes analysis for insights, optimizations and future strategy development
Exhibits solid communication skills in order to effectively present strategic and tactical plans to partners and internal teams
Experience in facilitating and managing forecasting, budgeting and pacing, campaign creation and optimization in a non-profit
Experience and skills working with:

Drupal or similar website management knowledge
Data mining software such as Google Analytics
Google tools Software Program
Contact management systems such as Salesforce and Salsa
Microsoft Office
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Premier
