Summary
The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), a research, policy and advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of public universities in the US, Canada and Mexico, is seeking a Project Manager for APLU’s Office of Access and Success (OAS) to manage several national initiatives to advance diversity, equity and inclusive practices in higher education. Successful candidates will work well with a broad range of individuals and constituencies across the United States and be a highly motivated and collaborative individual able to communicate effectively. The incumbent will possess strong strategic planning, meeting planning, budgeting, change management, and project control abilities. Successful candidate will be creative and entrepreneurial, possess excellent communication, presentation and project management skills and be dedicated to equity, access and educational excellence for all. Background
APLU is a research, policy, and advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of public universities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. With a membership of 242 public research universities, land-grant institutions, state university systems, and affiliated organizations, APLU's agenda is built on the three pillars of increasing degree completion and academic success, advancing scientific research, and expanding engagement. Annually, member campuses enroll five million undergraduates and 1.3 million graduate students, award 1.3 million degrees, employ 1.3 million faculty and staff, and conduct $49.3 billion in university-based research.

The Office of Access and Success has primary responsibility for supporting the APLU Council of 1890 Universities and the Commission on Access, Diversity, and Excellence (CADE). The Council of 1890 Universities, comprised of presidents and chancellors of APLU-member historically Black land-grant universities, primarily addresses matters pertaining to strengthening teaching, research, and extension programs at these historic institutions. CADE seeks to develop a comprehensive agenda to broaden access and opportunity, improve the quality of the undergraduate experience, and enhance diversity within student and faculty populations at public universities. The Commission is comprised of representatives from a cross-section of APLU member institutions including presidents and chancellors, vice presidents, deans, and other campus leaders.

Responsibilities
The project manager will manage the delivery of medium complexity projects with multiple university and organizational stakeholders. The Project Manager must develop and maintain relationships and track activities that will support delivery of current projects and facilitate future collaborative opportunities. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
• Develops, implements and manages project planning processes, work plans and activity schedules to meet project objectives and deliverables.
• Plans and coordinates all logistical and administrative aspects of meetings, forums, and workshops sponsored by the Office of Access and Success, for members and external stakeholder. Provides support to the Vice President and Associate Director in developing agendas, materials, etc.
• Supports special projects of the Commission on Access, Diversity and Excellence (CADE) and the Council of 1890 Universities.
• Assists the Vice President with design and implementation of project requirements, collection of higher education institutional data and its analysis.
• In consultation with Vice President, presents results of data analyses and provides interpretation of such information at internal and external meetings, conferences and other convenings.
• Supervises and collaborates with university partners, subcontractors and consultants as appropriate.
• Assists in writing reports for programs and activities as required for publication and documentation.
• Collaborates with communications staff to implement communication strategies to report on completion of key project milestones and outcomes to media and other outlets.
• Assists with project, workshop and meeting evaluation and assessments of results.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced degree (MA, MS) or certification (PMP) preferred.
• Minimum of three to five years of progressive experience in project planning, project implementation and management, supervision of project staff, and collaboration with organizational partners.
• Experience in creating realistic project and production timelines and project budgets. Ability to prioritize work effectively and adjust to multiple and competing demands.
• Demonstrated experience in all aspects of meeting and workshop planning.
• High level of organization, with ability to carry out administrative, financial, and significant project management activities with accuracy, and attention to detail.
• Superior communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to schedule and lead efficient and productive meetings both in person and via web-based communication tools.
• Experience implementing communications strategies.
• Knowledgeable about qualitative and quantitative research or program evaluation.
• Superior analytic, writing, and editing skills. Experience in writing program or policy reports is ideal.
• Strong people management skills including the ability to provide direction to and leadership of indirect reports, partners, subcontractors and consultants. Demonstrated success in working in a matrixed professional environment.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate sound judgment, participate as an effective team member, cooperate with co-workers and supervisors, and follow through assigned tasks to completion.
• Commitment to the work of APLU and its Office of Access and Success.
• Experience with multiple MS Office software, online video conferencing, and willingness to learn new software packages.
• Ability to travel domestically as needed.
