COG specializes in data-driven digital organizing, relational organizing, door-to-door canvassing programs, signature collection, and public affairs. We help campaigns reach scale while having the quality conversations needed to change people's lives.



General Description

The stakes have never been higher for health care, abortion access, reproductive rights, and our democracy ó and the opportunity has never been greater. Voters want elected officials who will stand up for their rights, their health care, and their safety. In 2020, Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations are uniquely positioned to engage and mobilize these voters.



We have built an electoral program to meet the moment and the stakes at hand. Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations launched its largest-ever electoral effort for the 2020 cycle, making strategic investments to take back the Senate, the White House, state legislatures, and defeat harmful ballot measures across the country.



Community Outreach Group is seeking an enthusiastic State Director to serve as a part of Planned Parenthoodís Independent Expenditure campaign. The State Director will manage a team of Organizers throughout the state, work with client organizations to supporters in organizing programs, build and strengthen local leadership, and support the long-term goals of Planned Parenthood.



The State Director will hire Organizers who will recruit, train, and manage staff in order to engage communities about a host of issues, but focusing on voter registration, vote by mail, persuasion, and GOTV on behalf of endorsed candidates along with issues related to sexual and reproductive rights. The State Director will be assigned goals for each region and will be responsible for supporting their team to reach those goals. Responsibilities

Own the process of recruitment, hiring, and training of organizers in multiple regions
On-board and train new hires so that they understand the big-picture strategy of the campaign and their role in winning
Supervise organizers by setting clear goals, developing work plans, acting as a coach and mentor to ensure employee development, and conducting regular check-ins and offering feedback
Work with leadership to break overall regional goals down into smaller goals, develop timelines and work plans, and produce reports to tell the story of your teamís progress
Participate in and lead paid field campaign tactics
Develop relationships with key political players, opinion leaders, allied organizations, and coalitions to build the base of support within the region.
Work with coalition partners and key stakeholders to develop and execute a cooperative campaign strategy
Ensure client and organizational satisfaction and completion of all program goals and obligations


Qualifications

Applicants for this position should bring the following knowledge, abilities, and attitude:
Expertise running virtual organizing programs
Expertise developing and leading voter contact campaigns (knowledge of both paid and volunteer programs preferred)
Expertise setting goals and deadlines for other people, and coaching teams to meet those goals or deadlines
Experience administrating human resources and payroll
Experience training organizers and first-time managers
Experience monitoring, managing, and enforcing a detailed budget of over $250,000
Strong data analysis skills, and the ability to read a report and take action
Ability to engage with multiple stakeholders, communicate clearly and often, and manage diverse personalities and expectations
Strong interpersonal skills, including comfort meeting and talking with new people
Maintain a positive, can do, and solutions-oriented attitude in tough situations
Flexible and self-motivated to identify priorities and complete work
Knowledge of and commitment to progressive causes and progressive management practices
Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekend

There is no formal education requirement for this position.



Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt, entry-level position with the Community Outreach Group, with an annual base salary between $70,000 - $75,000 depending on skills, experience, and qualifications. Full-time exempt employees are also eligible for a cell phone reimbursement up to $75/month, and employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance. This is a short-term position with an expected end date of November 30, 2020.
