ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Making Waves was founded in 1989 as an education support program to help address the disparity in educational opportunities for low-¬‐income students in Richmond, CA and to help them prepare for and graduate from college. For decades, through comprehensive programming and services, Making Waves has helped prepare and support first-¬‐generation college students to graduate from competitive institutions across the country.

In 2007, Making Waves Academy (MWA) Middle School was founded, a charter school offering a rigorous fifth to eighth grade academic program with a focus on college and career readiness. The Making Waves Academy Upper School opened in 2011 and provides rich academic course offerings, career exploration and extensive college advisement.

MWA currently serves 800 students in grades 5-¬‐12 and 95% or more of its first three graduating classes were accepted to college. About 70% gained admission to four-¬‐year schools and 25% or more gained admission to two-¬‐year schools. The first phase of a five year strategic growth plan is underway, with a new expanded middle school opening in 2018. MWA will ultimately grow to serve roughly 6,000 students on three K-¬‐12 campuses, while continuing to support our alumni in persisting through college.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Managing Director of Talent Acquisition is a newly designed, highly strategic role, reporting directly to the CEO, and focused exclusively on designing and executing a cutting edge, best in class talent acquisition strategy. Making Waves Academy is committed to significantly investing in the most innovative practices to recruit, select and retain top talent across all facets of the organization.

With a deep understanding of the California instructional talent landscape and a design thinking approach, The MD of Talent Acquisition will position the organization to build deeper, richer, more comprehensive talent pipelines, getting further into talent pools sooner and cultivating talent before it is needed.

KEY OUTCOMES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop a comprehensive talent acquisition strategy which explicitly outlines everything from philosophical approach, action plans for how and where to source talent, systems and processes which must be built out, and how effectiveness will measured
• Design the organization’s recruitment function to maximize time, resources and effort
• Develop state‐wide and local partnerships to increase talent pipelines
• Design cutting‐edge talent identification and selection tools and processes to ensure the organization efficiently targets and hires best fit candidates
• Manage and develop current and future recruitment team members
• Collaborate closely with colleagues on the senior leadership team including but not limited to the Managing Director of Human Resources and the Director of the Teacher Residency

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Passion for MWA’s mission and demonstrated commitment to supporting first generation students and/or children and families from high needs communities
• Significant experience leading the design of and executing a comprehensive and highly successful talent recruitment strategy
• Sophisticated understanding of teacher recruitment and the California instructional talent landscape or similar regions
• Experienced team manager who understands how to compose and build efficient, high functioning teams and is committed to developing the capacity of team members
• Highly relational and collaborative with a track record of building strategic partnerships and engaging and influencing internal and external colleagues and stakeholders
• Demonstrates a service‐orientation for “internal customers” around their talent acquisition needs and priorities
• Views students, families and colleagues through an assets‐based lens; demonstrates authentic appreciation of, ability to connect with, and see strengths in individuals from diverse backgrounds

SALARY
Salary for this position is highly competitive and commensurate with experience. MWA also provides innovative and comprehensive benefits, including cost of living stipends, tuition assistance and forgivable home loans after three years of service.
