The Job
The Opportunity Network is looking for a driven and experienced individual to join our collaborative program team. The Internships Assistant will be responsible for working directly with the Program Manager of Internships and Career Success and the College and Career Success Program Assistant to support our high-achieving high school and college students through their internship, enrichment program placements and career transition. The Internships Assistant will work with outstanding students, enjoy the freedom to create and collaborate and seize a real opportunity to create social change. The position is located in downtown Manhattan.

The Person

The candidate should possess outstanding professionalism and discretion, organization and attention to detail, energy and initiative, the ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks on time, and a willingness to work on a wide range of assignments.

Skills:  
Responsibilities
• Support the Program Manager of Career Success in targeting, cultivating and sustaining internship, enrichment and career opportunities for OppNet Fellows;
• Be well-versed in OppNet’s employer relationships and historical internship opportunities;
• Work closely with students on internship and enrichment applications through individual student meetings and holding office hours;
• Keep track of and coach students in their individual internship interests and work with program team to align students’ interests with opportunities;
• Liaise with employers to advocate for OppNet students;
• Coordinate internship and enrichment placement interview and meeting logistics on behalf of OppNet;
• Review and edit student resumes and cover letters;
• Prepare all students for interviews, through workshops, written materials and/or one-on-one phone calls/meetings;
• Maintain detailed records on students and employers and generate real-time reports on internship and enrichment placement process;
• Facilitate Career Fluency® sessions on professional etiquette, internship readiness and career transition;
• Update student and employer records in Salesforce in a timely and consistent manner;
• Conduct summer check-ins with employers and interns to assess performance and troubleshoot any issues;
• Conduct employer and student evaluations for all internship and enrichment opportunities;
• Develop new strategies to enhance the internship program
• Collaborate with the team on all aspects of programming, reporting, and special events.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college/university;
• One to three years of work experience, preferably in the career development/career services field;
• Demonstrated ability to connect with high-achieving high school and college students from underserved communities;
• Demonstrated ability to help lead meetings and class sessions in rigorous but dynamic fashion;
• Able to be both nurturing and hold students to high expectations;
• Enjoys working with high school and college students;
• Superb oral and written communication skills, including experience working with students to craft resumes, cover letters and submit internship/job applications;
• Familiarity with the various industry and career trends;
• Strong organizational talents and the ability to meet deadlines;
• Availability and willingness to work some weeknights and weekends;
• Self-starter with strong entrepreneurial drive: takes initiative; comfortable operating in growth mode and wearing many hats; can operate self-sufficiently, but also collaboratively as part of a team;
• Demonstrated belief in The Opportunity Network’s mission; and
• High degree of effectiveness - gets things done!
