SUPERVISOR: Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 200 days per year. Works on-site according to designated schedule.

The Principal provides the instructional leadership and management necessary to maximize the efforts of teachers and students in an environment which is conducive to educational enhancement, growth and achievement for students. The principal will work collaboratively to implement the school mission, direct and nurture school staff and communicate effectively with parents and community partners. The position is responsible for directing all daily operations of the school campus, supervising and coordinating the work of all professional and classified personnel, ensuring subordinates’ adherence to District policies, regulations and goals. Responsible for preparing required reports, and performing other professional, administrative and supervisory work as required. The position develops and implements programs within organizational policies; reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports. The principal is responsible for developing, planning, managing, supporting, organizing and implementing unique programs within the school.

• A Master's degree, or higher, from an accredited college or University.
• Evidence of successful teaching and/or administrative experience.
• A valid Idaho Administrator's Certificate with School Principal Pre-K-12 endorsement or the ability to obtain by the start of the school year.
• Strong leadership capabilities a must including instructional leadership.
• High-level communication skills including individual and group skills in mediation, consensus, and problem solving.
• Exhibits patience, discretion, judgment, confidentiality, and diplomacy when working with various staff, students and patrons.
• Ability to work effectively with patrons, parents, and District employees.
• Biliteracy in English and Spanish preferred.
• Ability to effectively speak in public.
• Knowledge of standards based education.
• Computer literate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
• Structures classes within the framework of the District's instructional program to meet student needs.
• Understands and implements the Blaine County School District’s Strategic Plan.
• Understands and implements the District discipline model.
• Possesses a working background in standards based curriculum and the mastery learning model.
• Supervises the school's instructional process and ensures that the approved curriculum of the District is followed.
• Plans, organizes, and directs implementation of all school activities.
• Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and support for overall school objectives and programs.
• Oversees support services such as the maintenance, custodial, and nutrition service programs in conjunction with appropriate Classified supervisors.
• Cooperates with the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning and the Director of Special Programs to ensure all students are mastering standards and program compliance is maintained.
• Supervises and evaluates (as outlined in the Supervision/Evaluation Plan) all staff members.
• Prepares and administers the school budget.
• Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.
• Attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and events as appropriate.
• Works with the Superintendent and Administrative Team on District wide problems such as curriculum, transportation, special services, etc. Essential to be a team player.
• Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
• Screens, interviews and recommends applicants for positions at the building level.
• Provides for faculty orientation and in-service activities at the building level.
• Responsible for the continued evaluation of educational programs, with an emphasis on reading.
• Responsible for having a working knowledge of BCSD policy and procedures, master contract, and State Board of Education rules and regulations.

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training and personnel information systems. Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Ability to read and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, students, parents, and the general public. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to work in a friendly manner and to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and parents. Ability to perform duties in accordance with Board of Education policies.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 35% sitting, 30% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
