IWU’s Division of Student Affairs invites applications for the position of Director of Diversity and Inclusion. The Director of Diversity and Inclusion serves as a member of the Division of Student Affairs by supporting and challenging MALANA (Multi-Racial, African American, Latinx, Asian, Native American), LGBQ & TGNC, and first generation students, in addition to women, through the development of programs and initiatives focused on student success related to retention, academic excellence, and graduation. With the continued goal to cultivate a multicultural environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and where all community members feel a sense of belonging and foster a mutual appreciation and respect for diversity, the Division of Student Affairs is looking for a dynamic student-centered professional who can communicate IWU’s wide definition of diversity by supporting all students in a flexible and fast paced environment. Some weekend and evening work will be required. In addition to providing leadership for campus diversity initiatives, the Director’s broad position duties will include:

• Working with students, staff, and faculty to enhance appreciation and understanding of diversity issues.
• Facilitating trainings and workshops for residence life staff, orientation programs, and others offices as needed.
• Developing orientation programs for MALANA students and their families.
• Coordinating critical programs including the Diversity, Dignity, and Dialogue Series (3D), Safe Zone Trainings, Summer Enrichment Program, and the Peer Mentorship Program.
• Participating in campus-wide service including membership on various committees including the University Council for Diversity, Student Success Team, New Student Orientation Committee, and on-call duty rotation.


Skills:  


Basic Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in student affairs or applicable field preferred.
• 5 years of post-masters related professional experience.
• Knowledge of student development and identity theory.
• Established record of working with collegians of color in some of the following areas: retention and academic success programs, first-year student programs, advising, program coordination, and assessment.

Other Required Qualifications:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong supervisory and mentoring skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
