Job Title: Director, Diversity and Community Involvement

General Summary:

Lead, plan, develop, direct and evaluate the programs, services and staff of the Department of Diversity and Community Involvement. The director has primary responsibility for co-curricular programs on diversity and community service, professional and staff development, strategic planning, technical operations, fiscal management, public relations and marketing, and inter-divisional and cross-divisional collaborations. Contribute to the development of a sense of community at EMU.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the successful design and implementation of the educationally purposeful diversity and community service programs on campus specific to the Center for Multicultural Affairs, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center, the Women's Center, and the VISION (Volunteers Incorporating Service into our Neighborhoods) Center.

Provide direction for the marketing, development/fundraising, programmatic and operational activities associated with the programs and centers in the Department. Establish assessment protocols to monitor and assess the effectiveness of existing and new programs.

Develop, maintain and maximize the department's fiscal resources and operate within assigned budgets. Seek external funding relative to the strategic directions of the department, division and the university.

Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, evaluation and renewal of a diverse staff, including administrative/professional, professional/technical, clerical, graduate and undergraduate student staff and volunteers.

Provide consultation and training on cultural competence and diversity issues for university partners. Assist in Divisional and University initiatives on retention and student success and other strategic directions, and represent the Department on key Divisional and University committees.

Assist the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs with the identification of needs and development of strategic plans relative to the Department and Division.

Initiate and coordinate co-curricular programming and services and develop collaborative opportunities with other areas in the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, key strategic partners such as Housing, Admissions, Student Center, and Campus Life, Human Resources and the Department of Public Safety.

Serve as a liaison between the Department of Diversity and Community Involvement and entities on campus that maintain key relationships with community organizations, creating connections and partnerships beneficial to both.

Assist the Admissions Office with recruitment efforts for targeted populations.

Ensure that the Department maintains an active role in relevant state, regional and national professional organizations and associations.

Perform other duties as required.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
A Master's degree in College Student Affairs or related area is required. An earned doctoral degree preferably in educational leadership or related discipline is preferred.

At least five years of successful administrative and supervisory experience in higher education is required, preferably in Student Affairs administration. Teaching and human resource training experience in higher education is preferred.

Demonstrated skill and record of success in establishing good working relationships with students, staff, faculty and community partners is required.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and cultural competencies are required.

Experience in successful grant writing and fundraising is preferred.

Demonstrated experience working with community organizations and college student civic engagement programs is preferred.

Experience in developing learning outcomes and assessment protocols is preferred.

Experience in developing pedagogical designs for co-curricular programs in service learning, diversity, transition and other content areas is preferred.
