Job Title: Deputy Political/ Communications & Special Projects Associate

This is a critical supportive role both internally and externally with room for growth. Through a team-based approach, reporting to the Director of Politics, Communications and Special Projects, the Deputy Political/Communications & Special Projects Associate is responsible for developing, coordinating, monitoring and administrating a variety of assignments associated with our political and legislative activities, all forms of written communications, as well as special projects.
Primary Responsibilities will include:
• Assists the Director with legislative and political efforts with local, state and federal politicians to achieve the organization’s political agenda
• Serves as a liaison responding to, and in coordination with the Director, inquiries from elected officials and community stakeholders as needed
• As appropriate, coordinates work with organizations, coalitions, media, material development and key policymakers
• Works with Director to represent the organization at political events, rallies, press conferences etc., ensuring full knowledge/awareness of the subject matter
• Research and develops draft responses, in both English and Spanish, to inquiries from local press, media advisories, letters to the editor, press statements, etc.
• Works with field staff coordinating political action and voter registration initiatives
• Monitor media, including public websites, twitter feeds and other resources for relevant issues and news
• Identify, pitch, and write relevant, engaging dual language content for internal and external communications channels, including the member newsletter
• Working with graphic designer to develop and enhance dual language digital communications, flyers and poster development
• Manage and update dual language news and content regularly on the website and member portal
• Maintains and updates contact information in the member portal
• Liaison with staff, external stakeholders, members, politicians and Director
• Administers and monitors a variety of core programs and special projects

• Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to cultivate partnerships and to work with a diverse population, both internally and externally
• Highly effective and persuasive dual language written and verbal communication skills
• Well versed in all forms of social media
• Strong working knowledge of the political system - local, state and federal
• Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
• Highly organized
• Must be self-directed and self-motivated
Minimum Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Political Science or Communications
• Must be bi-lingual Spanish speaking – fluent in writing, speaking and understanding
• Two (2) years of direct experience either within the political arena and/or communications field with experience writing in multiple voices
• An equivalent combination of training, education and experience in related fields and educational disciplines
• Experience with/in mission-based organizations a plus
• Must be flexible with schedule
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license
