Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) is hiring a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to conduct research participant recruitment and data collection in English and Spanish for the Burden Study at one abortion facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Burden Study aims to document the multiple barriers women face accessing abortion care and whether these experiences are stressful, difficult, or anxiety provoking. We will recruit approximately 500 women accessing abortion care from participating abortion facilities across the country (Illinois, California, and New Mexico), of which approximately 150 patients will be recruited from an abortion facility in New Mexico. Participants will be asked to complete a one-time anonymous survey administered electronically (using an iPad) and / or on paper while they are waiting for their appointment.

The CRC will be responsible for carrying out recruitment, eligibility screening, and informed consent processes, as well as administering surveys, entering data, maintaining research records, protecting confidential information, handling and securing study surveys and gift cards, and responding to training and quality improvement measures.

The research team (research investigators, project director and other team members) are based at ANSIRH’s research office, located in Oakland, California. We will consider applications from candidates who are available for approximately five months to recruit at an abortion facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Surveys include questions about sensitive topics such as circumstances around pregnancy and abortion, feelings about being pregnant and having an abortion, and mental health. Comfort discussing these issues and interacting in a positive and sensitive manner with individuals receiving abortion services, as well as proficiency in Spanish are essential. We will cover air travel, lodging, and additional expenses for applicants living outside of Albuquerque. Preference will be given to local residents.

The CRC will perform independently or with general direction to execute, manage, and coordinate research protocols, as directed by the Project Director and / or Principal Investigators (PI); may coordinate the data collection and operations of the study under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF and regulating agency policies.

Please note: This is a 50% limited appointment for 5 months from start date. The location - An abortion facility, Albuquerque, NM.

• HS graduation and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities
Proficiency in English and Spanish languages (oral and written)
Attention to detail;strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population; ability to manage resources responsibly, with discretion, and sound judgment
Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines
Flexibility to work non-business hours, starting at 7:30am


Bachelors degree in public health, psychology or similar field, or equivalent experience
One to two years of relevant experience
At least one year of experience working in a reproductive health facility or social service setting that provides abortion care or nonjudgmental pregnancy options counseling
Experience conducting research interviews or administering surveys in English and Spanish
Experience using Qualtrics or similar electronic data collection and management systems
Willingness and ability to travel to abortion facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
Excellent interpersonal skills, both in-person and over the phone
Experience and ability to work and interact positively with people from diverse backgrounds
Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation
Comfort being present in abortion facility and discussing sensitive topics like reproductive health, abortion, and mental health, without imparting judgment or bias to study participants
Highly organized, ability to multitask, and demonstrated success working in a fast paced environment
Ability to work independently and use excellent judgment about when to seek support or guidance
Knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines, and data management and security measures
Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPPA regulations, following the UCSF mission statement and purpose for research, and clear understanding of policies and procedures on patient safety and confidentiality (electronic and hard copy medical records, patient charts, communication, etc.)
Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines:
Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
Health Information and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
The Protection of Human Research Subjects
Committee on Human Research (CHR) regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects
Effective Cash Handling Procedures
