General Summary:

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Chief Diversity Officer. This inaugural position will report to the President and provide executive leadership and vision for the design, promotion, and enhancement of diversity, inclusion and cultural competency efforts across the campus and throughout the community.

Located in Ypsilanti, Michigan with satellite campuses across the state, EMU is a comprehensive, public institution which has grown and developed to respond to the ever-changing needs of society. The University currently serves 23,000 students who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate, specialist, doctoral and certificate degrees. In all, more than 300 majors, minors and concentrations are delivered through the University's Colleges of Arts and Science, Business, Education, Health and Human Services, Technology, and its graduate school. The Chief Diversity Officer will serve as advisor to the President, administration, faculty, staff and students on diversity issues and provide key input to, and leadership for, efforts focused on minority and underrepresented students, faculty and staff by developing initiatives, coordinate education and training, and awareness across the University. This position will work closely with the Title IX Coordinator, Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action, members of the Human Resources Division, as well as academic leadership, faculty members and administrators, to sustain and enhance the University's approach to increasing intercultural competency of students, faculty, and staff through education, training and professional development.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the strategy, planning and implementation of the University's diversity plan in alignment with the University's strategic plan.
Develop initiatives, coordinate and/or deliver education and training, and coordinate awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across the campus and throughout the community.
Research University programs and current populations to determine diversity issues and initiatives.
Develop and coordinate outreach and awareness programs designed to promote ethnicity and cultural education.
Advise and collaborate with colleges and administrative units as they establish, coordinate, and assess contributions to diversity goals.
Consult with relevant internal and external policy-making bodies to identify necessary actions to ensure accountability on all aspects of inclusion and diversity for the University.
Foster community outreach, respond to public inquiries, and provide information about the University's diversity goals and efforts.
Collaborate with Enrollment Management to build sustained partnerships with community organizations for the purpose of identifying and recruiting prospective students.
Lead University efforts to recruit and retain a diverse community of students, faculty and staff.
Represent the University in various community, state and regional activities designed to promote diversity in higher education.
Perform related divisional duties as required.
