BILINGUAL PARENT OUTREACH COORDINATOR


The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) has an immediate opening for a Bilingual Outreach Coordinator to represent the Illinois Student Assistance Commission within local communities throughout the state of Illinois fostering ongoing relationships with the following: Students, parents, elementary, secondary and postsecondary schools, community-based organizations, municipal, state, federal government agencies, etc.


Duties and Responsibilities:


* Demonstrate mastery of the following: All ISAC-administered grants, scholarship loan, and pre-paid tuition programs. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, (FAFSA) on the Web, and need-based federal financial aid programs.
* Deliver presentations relevant to higher education for middle, high school, and college student audiences.
* Represent the agency at college fairs, financial aid nights, conferences, and related events.
* Familiarize community members with the programs and services offered by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
* Maintain and report quantitative and qualitative data on all outreach activities.
* Familiarize community members with the programs and services offered by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
* Initiate and maintain regular contact including visits with new and existing community partners that will further the agency mission of promoting equal access to quality postsecondary education.
* Establish and coordinate local partnerships that bring together representatives from the P16 community.
* Identify opportunities to better position the agency in matters relevant to College Access Marketing.
* Work with community members and community-based service providers to investigate the needs of the community as they relate to accessing higher education and promoting community economic development.
* Work with management staff to develop new college access initiatives.
* Develop a network of professional contacts that can be called upon as needed for students with academic and social/emotional needs.
* Develop presentations relevant to financing higher education that provide professional development opportunities for high school counselors, college admission counselors, financial aid administrators, representatives of other government agencies and
community based organizations that are involved in addressing the academic
social and financial needs of potentially college-bound students and their parents.
* Provide accurate, complete, and sensitive counsel (and referrals to other service providers as needed and appropriate) to students facing academic, financial, and social barriers to higher education.
* Provide technically proficient, yet easily accessible advice and information to the parents of potentially college-bound students on the college admission and financial aid application process.
* Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:


* Bachelor's degree.
* Bilingual (Spanish and English).
* 10 years of work experience.
* Experience engaging community members and community-based organizations either professional or volunteer.


ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


* Strong ability to communicate complex information to diverse groups of individuals.
* Ability to respond appropriately to high emotional and confidential counseling situations.
* Possess exceptional knowledge of English grammar.
* Exercise time management practices.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; i.e. public speaking, research projects writing, telephone etiquette.
* Ability to represent the agency and agency positions in print and electronic media and with elected and appointed public officials.
* Sensitivity and knowledge of multicultural needs of our clients and diverse population areas.
* Ability to exercise confidentiality, good judgement and common sense.
* Provide outstanding customer service.
* Ability to identify and utilize appropriate resources, internal or external, to prioritize and complete assignments.
* Ability to prioritize and work independently to complete assigned projects.
* Proficient use of software packages as: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, e-mail.
* Working knowledge of the Internet.
