SUMMARY OF POSITION
Monterey County Health Department's Behavioral Health Bureau is hiring for the position of Behavioral Health Aide (BHA). The Behavioral Health Bureau serves adults and young adults with serious and persistent mental illness and children and families involved in the Child Welfare system. Behavioral Health Aides are an integral part of our multidisciplinary teams and currently there are opportunities with the Adult System of Care (ASOC) and the Mental Health Court Forensic team, as well as within the Children's System of Care (CSOC).

The Eligible List established by this recruitment process will be used to fill current and future vacancies, both regular and temporary, as they arise.

Examples of Duties
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Knowledge of:
• Principles and techniques of providing human services to a diverse client population
• Basic math, record keeping, alphanumeric filing, grammar and spelling
• General office procedures and practices, including preparation of correspondence, forms, and reports
• Basic principles of group behavior
• Socioeconomic, environmental, and cultural factors and affecting client behavior
• Services and resources provided through governmental and community-based organizations

Skill and Ability to:
• Communicate and interrelate effectively with the public, families, children, and/or adults from a variety of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds under stressful circumstances
• Observe clients and their living conditions, identify and analyze problem situations, and take appropriate actions
• Accurately prepare reports, correspondence, and forms
• Understand and follow written and oral instructions
• Perform accurate mathematical computations
• Operate a personal computer
• Operate a motor vehicle safely and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations to transport clients

Examples of Experience/Education/Training
The skills necessary may be acquired through various types of education, training, and/or experience, typically:
• One year of providing support to professional-level staff, or one year of clerical or record keeping experience, in a mental health or human services setting that involves direct client or patient contact.

Required Conditions of Employment:
• Bilingual in English/Spanish
• Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record or ability to provide suitable transportation approved by the appointing authority
• Exposure to a variety of difficult living conditions during off-site visits
• Work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Personally lift items weighing up to 20-30 pounds
• The Health Department will conduct a thorough background and reference check process, which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
