General Summary:

Provide strategic leadership and sound management of the Alumni Relations and Communications components of the Alumni Relations Office at EMU. Primary responsibilities focus upon the delivery of programming, marketing & communications materials that will build, develop and sustain strong relationships in order to increase the engagement of the University's multiple stakeholders and support the University's mission, strategic plan and fundraising objectives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, develop and execute targeted programs that produce real and measurable results for the University, in terms of programming ROI, net revenues, active alumni, new donors, positive community exposure and networking.

Develop, prepare and disseminate alumni relations marketing and communications material to alumni, faculty, staff, community and other stakeholders, using web-based, print and other media.

Develop and implement a robust, and effective departmental communications strategy that is aimed at engaging alumni, friends, and the community and dynamically connects the department and its members with its stakeholders. Optimize the use of technology, including social media for marketing, communications & data reporting.

Actively recruit, train and manage volunteer leadership boards for regional, college-based, professional and special interest chapters. Encourage faculty participation in chapter activities and manage relations between chapters and faculty.

Develop and implement annual operating plans and programming for alumni chapters that support the University's strategic plan and successfully motivates and grows the volunteer network. Plan and promote chapter events and regional activities.

Proactively support the stewardship responsibilities of the EMU Foundation giving/development officers by assisting them in establishing and coordinating individualized stewardship plans for donors to their colleges/units.

Develop and implement standard alumni relations programs such as student alumni ambassadors, alumni admissions ambassadors, young alumni targeted programs, affinity groups/chapters/events, and career and mentoring programs with alumni.

In conjunction with the Assistant Vice President for Alumni Engagement, create a comprehensive approach to alumni engagement through alumni chapters, social media, and other communications vehicles. Measure and evaluate the success and effectiveness of the alumni chapter program by providing web analytics, dashboards, & metrics which provide quantitative analysis of alumni engagement, program & event outcomes.

Serve as official liaison to these committees of the Alumni Association and Board of Directors: Chapters, Scholarships, and others as necessary. Conduct regular committee meetings and provide accurate reports as necessary.

Hire, train, manage relationships and evaluate student intern staff for communications.

Lead the negotiation and execution of contracts with vendors for services and merchandise associated with constituent programming efforts.

Communicate effectively with internal and external constituencies.

Perform other duties as assigned and required.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, higher education administration, communications or a related field is required.

Two years of public relations or related experience is required. Knowledge and skills in planning, organizing, communicating, and problem solving is required. Experience working in alumni relations and/or advancement, in the non-profit sector and/or higher education is preferred.

Proven ability to function independently and without supervision at remote locations, to supervise volunteers and traveling staff, and to arrange for and negotiate contracts and services at off-campus sites is required.

Working knowledge of or ability to learn various computing software programs is required. Proven ability to create compelling communications campaigns and material, both web-based and printed.

Experience in web design and its effective use in engaging targeted audiences and ability to manage social media as an engagement and communication platform.

Must be capable of working with sensitive information with complete confidentiality.

Proven ability to work with diverse constituencies and exercise competency for supporting inclusive environments.

Ability to adapt quickly, meet deadlines, and manage change.

Excellent interpersonal, written communications and organizational skills are required. One year of budget development and account management experience is highly desirable.

Previous experience supervising staff and volunteers is preferred.
