Job description:  

The Heller School at Brandeis University seeks to hire an Assistant Dean to oversee career development activities, manage its staff and programs, and serve the existing multi-cultural student body and alumni population of the school. This individual will develop the strategy for the center, manage the delivery of career education and counseling to Masters and PhD level students, establish and maintain relationships with employers, foster cross-collaborative efforts within the University as a whole, and measure outcomes of career services activities. Through leveraging personal, professional, and Heller contacts, the Assistant Dean will cultivate and maintain relationships with public, private, non-profit, multinational, non-governmental, and humanitarian organizations around the world.

Examples of Key Responsibilities:

Provides individual career counseling to students and alumni on career and professional goals, professional development tools, job search strategies and career materials (resumes, cover letters, web presence, and networking).

Directs Heller's Office of Career Services advising and placement activities through 1) planning, monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of all programs and outreach, 2) coordinating with academic programs, administration, students and alumni, and 3) overseeing ongoing implementation of strategic programming plan.

Fosters and develops collaborative relationships with Program Directors, Admissions, and Alumni Development to communicate best practices and achieve strong student outcomes.
Leads employer relations efforts, including coordinating with alumni, faculty, and others for partnership building and organizing career fairs, industry programs, alumni events, company presentations or visits and other events to expand recruiting opportunities. Provides support to staff in organization of yearly employer visits.

Manages overall Office of Career Services administration including budgeting, personnel, operational and organizational systems.

Coordinates plan for developing and maintaining the web based job posting database and other web based outreach to students, alumni, and employers


Master's strongly preferred, Bachelor's required. 8+ years relevant work experience plus 3-5 supervisory. Prefer experience supervising staff in Higher Education setting.

Ability to counsel, advise, and support students and alumni from diverse cultures. Strong relationship building and management skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, specifically possessing strong professional/business writing and editing abilities. Capacity to plan, organize, and lead programming.

Experience teaching a plus. Experience in dealing with corporate and nonprofit executives and recruiters. Understanding of Handshake, Qualtrics, and Excel a plus.
